1. Check your FTP settings and make sure that they are correct. If they are correct but you still get that error, then try #2 below.

2. Go to Help > System Info > Directory Permissions and make sure that your directories are writable. If not, it would definitely affect the ability to install, save changes, etc.

Below is a link to the Joomla Help site where they discuss the need for writable directories. Start at this page:

help.joomla.org/screenbooks/JoomlaHelp_w...nstaller/slide05.htm

And then click through the slides for more information.

Here is another post with additional information:

forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?t=121470

Try changing permissions as they recommend, and check to see if your BreezingForms installation works correctly after that. If it doesn't, then I would recommend you use the alternate installation method. For more information, please see this KnowledgeBase article:

Help > System Info > Directory Permissions
only tmp and log are Unwritable.

is that a problem. changing them to 777 still shows unwritable and same BF error when installing.

Log Directory ($log_path) /home/users/web/*****/*****/*****/logs/ Unwritable
Temp Directory ($tmp_path) /home/users/web/*****/*****/*****/tmp/ Unwritable

with filezilla, I was able to create directories in the above "unwritable" directories. hummm
both have 755 permissions.

Those folders -- especially the /tmp directory -- need to be writable. During installation process, the files and folders from the zip file are transferred to your /tmp directory.

Permissions of 755 should be sufficient. If after changing the permissions, they are still showing as unwritable, here are a couple of other possibilities:

1. Check your Joomla Global Configuration settings and make sure that the /tmp and /log paths are corrected noted there.

2. Check that the ownership of the file is correct. (It should be the same user as the one you use for your FTP account.)
