TOPIC: Dynamic drop down according to previous selection

Dynamic drop down according to previous selection 1 year ago #73470

Hello,

The need is to have a drop down dynamically altered as to offer a selection of items minus the previous selected one.

Example of three drop down fields displaying the values: blue, red, green, yellow, orange

In first drop down red is selected, then second drop down offers only blue, green, yellow, orange
In second drop down yellow is selected, then third drop down offers only blue, green, orange
In third drop down, any remaining color is selected.

Is that doable?

Thanks.

Welcome Flyride thanks for using Breezingforms,

This is doable, it would require a combination of conditional fields
crosstec.de/en/turn-fields-and-sections-...f-conditionally.html
and multiple hidden dropdowns that would activate based on the conditions.

what you would do is this:

start with your base
blue, red, green, yellow, orange

then you would create multiple hidden drop down lists based on if one color disappeared
red, green, yellow, orange
blue, green, yellow, orange
blue, red, yellow, orange
blue, red, green, orange
blue, red, green, yellow,

using conditionals for the drop down menus you'll be able to accomplish what you are looking for, yes it is time consuming but once you make one you can apply it for multiple forms or use it in the same form* (as long as you rename the elements)\

unfortunately being that you posted in the Free Forums I cannot code it for you, but if you post it in the club forms I can further assist you by writing part of the code to get you started if you needed help

Hope this helps

Re: Dynamic drop down according to previous selection 1 year ago #73521

Hello,

Sounds this is going in the right direction. But I think I should have put more details. The second choice is not limited to a single item less, a color in the example, less after choosing the first one.

What is intended is a selection of 10 values in a 20 possible list.

So there are 10 drop down fields where after the first selection, 19 values are available, then 18 values, and so on until we reach 10 chosen values.

Another potential solution would be to let any choice made, then by using a validation rule, make sure that there are no duplicate values in 2 or more of the 10 fields.

What do you think?
